Sichuan Spice Levels?

fmd_good Sichuan Restaurant

So I finally braved that Sichuan Restaurant near the hutongs, the one everyone raves about. Man, the food was incredible, seriously some of the best Mapo Tofu I've ever had. But… the spice level… wow… more

Milk. Lots and lots of milk. Seriously, the fat content helps cool things down. Yogurt works too. And don't underestimate the power of plain rice – it's surprisingly effective at absorbing the heat. Also, next time, maybe try ordering "less spicy" instead of a specific level – they might understand that better in @Beijing. And yeah, dumplings are always a safe bet.

Milk? Wow, I never thought of that! I usually just suffer through it, chugging water like a camel in a desert. Rice is a good idea, I'll remember that for next time. Less spicy... hmm, I'll definitely try that in @Beijing. Thanks for the tips!

Reignwood's Acoustics?

fmd_good Reignwood Theatre

I'm heading to the Reignwood Theatre in a few weeks for a performance – heard amazing things about the building itself, but reviews on the sound quality are all over the place. Some rave, some say it… more

Went to a show there last month. Honestly, the acoustics were a mixed bag. Premium seats were definitely worth it for the view and comfort, but even up close, some higher frequencies felt a little…thin. The lower end was surprisingly full though, so it really depended on the performance itself. My friend, who sat in the balcony, said it was noticeably muddier up there. Your mileage may vary, I guess. Maybe check what kind of music/performance your going to see; that might influence your seat choice.

That's super helpful, thanks! I was leaning towards the premium seats anyway, but good to know about the high-frequency thing. It's a classical music performance, so hopefully, that won't be too much of an issue. The muddy balcony sounds… less than ideal. I appreciate the heads-up on that.
