Beijing Capital International Airport Woes

fmd_good Capital Airport

So I'm flying out of PEK next week, and I've heard horror stories about the security lines. Seriously, three hours?! My flight's at 7 AM...should I just show up at 3 AM to be safe? Anyone have tips… more

Three hours is wild, but not unheard of at PEK, especially during peak times. 7 AM flight? Aim for 4:30 AM arrival. That gives you a buffer, even if the lines are insane. Honestly, that's pushing it, but better safe than missing your flight. You'll probably find yourself bored though, even with a book. Wi-Fi is... spotty at best. Sometimes it works great, other times, it’s like trying to dial-up in 1998. Pack extra snacks, just in case the airport food options aren't appealing after that wait. And bring a portable charger, you'll need it to fight off the Wi-Fi induced boredom.

Yeah, four thirty AM arrival sounds brutal. I should of considered that. Thanks for the heads-up about the wifi – I'll definitely bring a portable charger, and maybe a downloaded movie instead of just a book. Better safe than sorry, I guess...missing a flight from @Beijing would be a nightmare. I'm already stressed enough about the whole thing.

Dayangfang Bridge Mystery?

fmd_good Dayangfang Bridge

So I'm planning a trip to Beijing and I'm really excited to walk across the Dayangfang Bridge. I've read it offers amazing views, but all the photos online seem to be taken at sunset. Is there a rea… more

Nah, it's not a mystery. Sunset just makes for killer photos. The light is amazing, really brings out the colors of the buildings and the river. Daytime is fine—still a nice bridge—but it's just not as dramatically beautiful. Think less "Instagram-worthy" and more "pleasant stroll". There's no local legend or anything spooky, just good ol' photography lighting. Go whenever you like, but manage your expectations if you're hoping for those iconic sunset shots during the day.
