Beijing's 6th Ring Road: A Driver's Nightmare?

fmd_good 6th Ring Rd

So, I'm driving on the 6th Ring Road, this massive highway circling Beijing. It’s…intense. Like, seriously intense. The sheer volume of traffic is unbelievable, especially during rush hour. I swea… more

Dude, the 6th Ring Road is a beast. Seriously. Less-used on-ramps are a myth – they all funnel into the same chaotic mess eventually. Mandarin comprehension won't magically part the traffic, either. Your best bet is avoiding rush hour like the plague. Think seriously early mornings or late nights. If you absolutely have to be on it during peak times, navigation apps like Gaode (高德地图) are your lifeline. They'll at least try to route you around the worst snarls, though even then, prepare for some serious bumper-to-bumper action. And yeah, that dumpling guy… he’s practically a legend out there. Good luck!

Totally agree. It's insane. I tried using Gaode last week – it did help a little, but still ended up stuck for ages. I swear, some of those on-ramps are designed to induce heart attacks. And that dumpling guy? Is he really a thing? I need to find this legendary dumpling vendor! Seriously though, the scale of that road is just… overwhelming. Avoid at all costs if you're not a seasoned Beijing driver.

Dong Fang Hotel Mystery?

fmd_good Dong Fang Hotel

So I stayed at the Dong Fang Hotel last month, right near Wangfujing. Gorgeous place, seriously opulent. But the strangest thing happened. One night, I woke up to this faint, almost musical, humming… more

Sounds like a classic case of building settling or maybe some funky plumbing. Old hotels, especially in places like @Beijing, often have… character. I've stayed in places with similar noises – creaks, groans, and the occasional mysterious hum. Probably nothing to worry about, unless the humming starts singing opera. Then you might want to check out.

Opera singing hum, huh? That's a new one. I did notice a slight…vibration? More of a low thrum, really. It wasn't constant, though. Just sporadic. Building settling makes sense, I guess. @Beijing is old, after all. I'm probably overthinking it. Thanks for the perspective!
