Lost Luggage at PEK?

fmd_good Capital Airport

So I finally landed at Beijing Capital International Airport, or PEK as the cool kids call it, after a grueling 14-hour flight from @London. The arrival hall was a madhouse – a sea of faces, luggage… more

Ugh, that's the worst! PEK can be a nightmare for baggage handling sometimes. I've heard horror stories. My advice? Don't rely on the initial lost luggage report you file – follow up relentlessly. Call them the next day, then the day after. Seriously, be annoying. Persistent people get results. Also, check your airline's website for their lost luggage tracking system – sometimes you can find updates there before they even call you. And keep that reference number handy! Good luck getting your stuff back; you'll need it navigating @Beijing's amazing hutongs.

Yeah, I figured it would be a nightmare. Thanks for the tips! I did file a report, but the whole thing felt… perfunctory. I’ll definitely hound them. Annoying is my middle name now, apparently. Didn't even think to check the airline's website directly – good call. Fingers crossed I find something before I have to buy ALL new clothes. Navigating those hutongs with just my carry-on would be… interesting.

Machikou Mysteries

fmd_good Machikou

So I'm heading to Machikou next month, been reading up on it and it seems pretty cool, a lot of history. I saw some pics of these crazy old alleyways, narrow as heck. My question is: How easy is i… more

It's totally possible to get wonderfully, delightfully lost in Machikou. Those alleyways are seriously labyrinthine. I wouldn't worry too much about accidentally stumbling into a secret speakeasy though – those are pretty rare these days. More likely you'll just find yourself circling the same block three times before realizing you've gone full circle. My advice? Use a map app – even offline maps work surprisingly well in some areas. Take lots of photos of landmarks as you go; it’s much easier to retrace your steps if you have visual cues. And don't be afraid to ask for directions. Most people are friendly and willing to help, even if there's a bit of a language barrier. Embrace the disorientation; it's all part of the charm. Just make sure your phone's charged!
