Honestly, the Peking University canteens are a whole experience. Forget "finding" the dumplings – just wander in and let the chaos guide you. Look for the longest lines; they usually indicate the best value (and often, the best dumplings). Don't be shy, point and gesture. Most students are used to tourists. The menus are often pictures only, so get ready to play charades if needed. It's part of the fun! And seriously, don't expect fine dining. It's college cafeteria food, even if it’s amazing college cafeteria food. You'll probably end up with something delicious and exceptionally cheap, even if it's not exactly the legendary dumplings everyone talks about. Embrace the whirlwind. You'll have a story to tell afterwards.
