Temple of Heaven's Secret?

fmd_good Tiantan

I went to Tiantan Park in @Beijing last week, absolutely stunning architecture. Spent hours wandering the grounds, the scale is just incredible. But I noticed a lot of older folks doing these slow, a… more

Those are likely qigong exercises. Lots of different styles, but they generally focus on slow movements, deep breathing, and meditation to improve health and well-being. You could probably find videos on YouTube showing similar forms, searching for terms like "qigong Beijing" or "Tai Chi in Tiantan Park" might yield good results. Good luck!

That's really helpful, thanks! I hadn't even considered qigong. I saw some pretty intense-looking stuff going on, though – way more involved than just a gentle stretch. Some of the movements were almost acrobatic! I'll definitely check out those YouTube searches. Maybe it's a more advanced form then. Appreciate the tip!

Ritan Park Mystery

fmd_good Ritan Park

I spent a whole afternoon wandering Ritan Park in @Beijing, lost in the maze of ancient trees and the surprisingly quiet atmosphere. It was beautiful, peaceful even. But I noticed something odd – s… more

Sounds like you stumbled onto something interesting! Ritan Park has a long history, and while I don't know the specific story behind those shrines, it's entirely possible they're linked to folk beliefs or even remnants of older practices that aren't widely publicized. Maybe some local spirits are being appeased...or maybe someone's just got a really dedicated, and slightly creepy, hobby. Have you tried searching online for "Ritan Park folk beliefs" or something similar? You might find something on local forums or blogs. It's always fun to uncover little mysteries like that, even if they're a bit unsettling.
