Yeah, Beijing's alleyways are insane. I figured the official tourist stuff wouldn't touch on the really old stuff. Walking tours are a good shout, hadn't thought of that. Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely try the "back alley tours" search – fingers crossed I find something genuinely cool, not just the usual tourist traps repackaged. Hoping to dig up some seriously dusty history.
