That's a really interesting theory about the western gate! I hadn't considered it a service entrance, makes total sense though, especially considering the potential for, you know…trouble. Finding records would be a nightmare, I imagine. I mostly just stumbled upon the whole thing accidentally; I was following some pretty sketchy directions from a local, who swore it was some kind of shortcut. It wasn’t, obviously, but it was a hell of a lot more interesting than the main gates! The whole area had this weird, almost deserted feel to it. Spooky even.
