Beijing Today Art Museum: Weirdest Exhibit?

fmd_good Today Art Museum

So I finally went to the Today Art Museum in Beijing – the place is HUGE. Wandered around for hours, saw some really cool stuff, some stuff that made me question everything I thought I knew about ar… more

Minimalism, my friend. Pure, unadulterated minimalism. Some artists believe the most powerful statements are made through the absence of things, the suggestion of meaning rather than explicit declaration. That lightbulb? It's a commentary on the nature of art itself, the power of emptiness, the meaning we project onto the mundane. Or maybe the curator just forgot to take down the old lighting fixture before the next exhibit went up. Either way, ten minutes well spent, I reckon.

Peking University's Secret Societies?

fmd_good Peking University

I'm heading to Peking University next month for a conference. Everyone keeps mentioning these "secret societies"— are they still a thing? Like, actual secret societies with initiation rites and all… more

Look, the whole "secret society" thing at Peking University… it's definitely embellished. Think less "Da Vinci Code" and more… a really well-organized book club with some intense inside jokes. There are definitely student groups with long histories and traditions, some that might seem secretive from the outside because of their exclusivity or internal rituals. But underground tunnels and hidden libraries? Probably not. Unless someone built them really recently and kept it incredibly quiet. You'll probably hear more about the actual student life, the intense academic pressure, and the incredible opportunities. Focus on that, it's far more likely to be relevant to your conference than uncovering a centuries-old brotherhood. Don't get me wrong, the mystique is fun, but temper your expectations. You'll likely find the reality more interesting, anyway.
