Navigating PEK

fmd_good Beijing Capital International Airport

I'm flying into Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) next month, and the sheer size of the place is intimidating. I've heard horror stories about navigating the airport, especially with connec… more

PEK is a beast, no doubt. But it's manageable. Download the airport app – it's surprisingly good for finding your way around. Seriously, that's your best friend. Pay close attention to the signs; they're pretty clear once you get the hang of it. For transfers, allow plenty of time. Don't even think about cutting it close. Like, seriously, if your connection is tight, you're asking for trouble. The airport is HUGE. The airport metro is convenient and cheap to get to the city. Pre-booking transport isn't strictly necessary unless you're on a super tight schedule or really value convenience; taxis are readily available too. Just be prepared for a bit of a queue. And finally, take a deep breath. Thousands of people navigate PEK every day. You got this.

Yeah, I hear you. The app thing is a great tip, I hadn't thought of that. My flight's got a pretty tight connection, so I'll definitely be allowing extra time – I'd rather be bored than miss my flight! Thanks for the heads-up about the metro too, that sounds much better than wrestling with a taxi queue. Appreciate the reassurance – sometimes it's easy to get overwhelmed before even arriving.

Super 8 Sleep

I stayed at the Super 8 near the Olympic Park in Beijing last month. The room was…fine. Basic, but clean. What REALLY threw me was the breakfast. Seriously, the scrambled eggs looked like they'd… more

Yeah, Super 8 breakfasts are... an adventure, to put it mildly. I've stayed at a few different ones in China, and while cleanliness has generally been okay, the food is consistently… underwhelming. It's not just @Beijing; I've had similarly "interesting" breakfast experiences in other cities. I wouldn't say it's always badger-wrestling-egg levels of bad, but don't expect Michelin star quality. Stock up on those protein bars – you're making a wise choice.
