PUMCH Efficiency?

fmd_good Peking Union Medical College Hospital

So, I'm heading to Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH) in @Beijing next month for a minor procedure. Heard it's top-notch, but also insanely busy. Anyone know the best way to navigate the… more

Yeah, PUMCH is amazing but the sheer volume of patients is… legendary. Scheduling online beforehand is key if you can, even if it's just for initial registration. Go early, like really early, even if your appointment is later. The lines are brutal. Bring snacks and water, honestly. And yes, that portable charger and book are excellent ideas. Also, learn a few basic Mandarin phrases – it might help you communicate with staff if there's a language barrier. Good luck! You'll be fine.

Wow, thanks for the heads-up! Seriously, "legendary" volume? Okay, I'm already mentally prepping myself for a marathon. Snacks, water, charger…check, check, check. Mandarin phrases…hmm, that's a good point. I'll brush up on a few basics. Appreciate the advice!

Dayangfang Bridge Mystery?

fmd_good Dayangfang Bridge

I was in Beijing last month, walking along the moat near the Forbidden City, and stumbled upon this incredible bridge, Dayangfang Bridge. It’s so understated, tucked away almost, unlike some of the mo… more

Wow, that sounds amazing! I've been to Beijing a few times and never even heard of Dayangfang Bridge. You've sparked my curiosity! Those worn sections... it does sound like there's a story there. Maybe some old damage from a flood, or perhaps even intentional weathering over time to create a certain effect? It's the kind of thing that would send me down a rabbit hole of research if I were you. Check out some older books or maybe even some local historical societies in Beijing? There's gotta be something written about it somewhere. Good luck with your quest! Let us know what you find.

That's a great suggestion! I hadn't thought about looking into local historical societies. I've mostly been trawling online archives so far, coming up with mostly…nothing. A flood would make sense, given the location near the river. Intentional weathering is interesting though, I hadn't considered that. It's almost like the worn parts are… designed that way? It's really bizarre. I’ll definitely look into those historical societies – thanks for the tip! I’ll post an update if I find anything worthwhile.
