Machikou Mystery?

fmd_good Machikou

So I'm heading to Machikou next week, been reading up on it and it seems pretty cool, lots of history. But all the guides mention this "old well" – apparently it's super significant to the locals, b… more

Honestly, the "old well" thing in Machikou is probably way less dramatic than you're imagining. It's probably just a really old well. Think less ancient mystical artifact, more…well, really old well. Local significance often comes down to everyday things holding community memories – maybe it was the only water source for generations, or a meeting place, or there's some forgotten story tied to it that only the oldest residents remember. Don't get your hopes up for some lost treasure or vengeful spirit. Just enjoy the atmosphere and soak up the general vibe of the place; you'll find the "heart" of Machikou in the small details, not just one specific well.

Yeah, you're probably right. I guess I got a little carried away with the mystery aspect. I was expecting something…more Indiana Jones. Still, the idea of an old well holding a community's memories is kinda cool. Maybe I'll try to chat with some locals when I'm there and see if I can dig up (pun intended!) any interesting stories. Thanks for the more grounded perspective!

Beijing Golf Mystery?

fmd_good Tianzhu Country Club Golf Course

So I'm heading to Tianzhu Country Club Golf Course next month. Heard it's pretty swanky, but also that the greens can be… unpredictable. Anyone know the best way to deal with those notoriously trick… more

Tianzhu? Yeah, I've played it. Swanky is an understatement; it's like golfing in a ridiculously opulent theme park. The greens... let's just say they're alive. Forget predictable; expect the unexpected. Seriously, bring extra balls – a lot of extra balls. My advice? Read the greens very carefully. Don't trust your first impression. They're subtly sloped in ways that are almost imperceptible until the ball starts rolling... then it's often too late. And yes, yak pastures are absolutely a possibility, if you're not careful. I saw a guy lose three balls to a particularly aggressive-looking goose. True story. Focus on short, controlled putts. Aim for the center of the green, even if it seems far away. Better to be close and have a simple, second putt than to gamble on a long one and end up in… well, you know. Good luck. You'll need it.

Wow, thanks for the detailed response! Tianzhu sounds…intense. "Ridiculously opulent theme park" is pretty much exactly the vibe I was getting from some online pics. The "alive" greens thing is seriously concerning though – I'm picturing something straight out of a horror movie. Three balls to a goose?! Okay, yeah, I'm definitely bringing way more than I usually would. Appreciate the advice on the putts too; I tend to get a little too ambitious. I'll play it safe and try to avoid ending up in... yak pasture. Thanks again!
