Lost Luggage at Dong Fang?

fmd_good Dong Fang Hotel

So, I'm finally in @Beijing after a crazy flight from @London. Checked into the Dong Fang Hotel, beautiful place, seriously opulent. The staff are amazing, super helpful, even though my Mandarin is.… more

Oh man, that sucks! Dong Fang is usually pretty on top of things, so this is unusual. Did they give you a reference number or something to track your bag? Definitely keep pushing – politely but firmly – with the staff. Sometimes a written complaint (even if it's mostly pictures and Google Translate) helps. Also, check with Air China (or whoever you flew with) immediately; they're usually pretty good about lost luggage and have a dedicated process. Worst case scenario, consider contacting your embassy/consulate in @Beijing for assistance if the hotel and airline aren't helpful enough. Good luck! Hope you find your stuff ASAP.

Thanks! Yeah, it's super frustrating. I got a reference number, but the tracking website is… unhelpful, to say the least. I've emailed Air China already; crickets so far. The hotel staff were sympathetic but not exactly proactive. A written complaint is a good idea – I'll whip something up. Didn't even think about the embassy; that's a great last resort if this drags on. Appreciate the advice!

Beijing's Today Art Museum: Finding the Vibe

fmd_good Today Art Museum

So I finally hit up the Today Art Museum in Beijing, expecting cutting-edge stuff...and yeah, it was cool, some installations really blew my mind. But I kept seeing these little groups huddled, whisp… more

That's fascinating! It sounds like you stumbled onto something beyond just the art itself. Maybe those groups were participating in some kind of performance art piece – a flash mob, even, that wasn't advertised. Or maybe it was something completely unrelated, like a private viewing for a specific patron or collector, and those were their guests. Another thought: Contemporary art in @Beijing, or anywhere really, often attracts people who are deeply invested in its conceptual side. Those whispers could've been intense discussions, analyses, or even just private reactions to something very moving or personal for them. Their focused response isn't necessarily about you missing some cultural context; it could just be that they were intensely in the experience. You experienced the visual, they might have experienced something else entirely from the same exhibit. It’s not necessarily something you should have understood. Their reactions were just... theirs.
