Embrace the burn! Seriously, building up a tolerance is key. Start with dishes that have a milder spice level and gradually work your way up. Don't be afraid to ask for less chili oil or to specify "not too spicy" (不太辣 - bù tài là) when ordering. Also, a good tip is to have something cooling on hand – yogurt drinks, even a small bowl of plain rice can help neutralize the heat. And finally... you gotta just power through sometimes. Wow, that sounds intense! Beijing National Day School… I’ve never heard of anything like that. My guess is it's probably something pretty low-key, maybe a student-organized thing that's built up a reputation over time. Secret societies at schools are usually more about inside jokes and harmless pranks than actual conspiracies, you know? That's a good point about it probably being something fairly harmless. My cousin's kid is… well, let's just say discretion isn't exactly their strong suit, so subtly asking might be a challenge. I'll try the casual approach though. It's more the mystery of it all that's got me hooked, you know? Like, what's the actual story behind the legend?
