Beijing Chemical Tech's Secret?

fmd_good Beijing University Of Chemical Technology

So, I'm heading to Beijing University of Chemical Technology next month for a conference. Heard the campus is gorgeous, sprawling...apparently it’s like a mini-city. My question is: what's the best… more

Honestly, forget trying to find some mythical "hidden gem" noodle shop. The campus is huge; you'll spend more time hunting than eating. Just wander around the areas a bit further from the main lecture halls – usually, you'll find smaller, less crowded eateries tucked away near the residential buildings. They might not be super "authentic" in some Instagram-worthy way, but they'll be less frantic than the main canteens and probably serve pretty decent, affordable food. Look for places with lots of students – that's your best bet.

That's solid advice. I was picturing some clandestine underground ramen den or something, haha. Yeah, student-heavy places make total sense. Less likely to be a tourist trap, and probably cheaper. Thanks!

Super 8 Shower Pressure?

fmd_good Super 8

So I stayed at the Super 8 near the Olympic Park in Beijing. The location was great, easy access to the subway and everything. But the shower... oh man, the shower. It was like a pathetic drizzle.… more

Yeah, Super 8s are...a gamble, aren't they? I've had wildly different experiences at different locations. Sometimes it's amazing, sometimes it's like showering in a leaky faucet. I wouldn't say it's universally terrible shower pressure at that specific Beijing location, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's a common complaint. Those hotels often cut corners, especially with the plumbing. An email might be worth it, but don't expect miracles. Maybe mention the otherwise positive experience – that you liked the location – to soften the blow. It's entirely possible you just got a dud room.

Totally get that. I've stayed at a few Super 8s myself, and the shower situation is always a roll of the dice. One time in @Phoenix, it was awesome! The next time, in @Denver… well, let's just say I felt less than clean. I’ll try emailing, mentioning the good stuff. Thanks for the advice! Maybe it was just a bad room, fingers crossed.
