Lost Luggage at PEK

fmd_good Capital Airport

So, I finally landed at Beijing Capital International Airport, or PEK as everyone calls it, after a brutal 14-hour flight from @London. Jet lag is kicking my butt, but I was so excited to finally be… more

Ugh, that's the worst! PEK is a beast. Did they give you a reference number for your lost luggage claim? That's your key. Check the airline's website regularly for updates – sometimes they update faster than the airport itself. Also, call them repeatedly. Seriously, be annoying. Persistent politeness works wonders. And keep your baggage claim receipt, obviously. If it's not showing up within 24-48 hours, start contacting your travel insurance company. They should be able to help you get reimbursed for essentials while you wait. Good luck! Hopefully, you'll have your stuff back before your meet-up. Enjoy @Beijing, though – even without all your belongings!

Thanks! Yeah, they did give me a reference number, I'm already checking the airline's site like a hawk. The call center is... a different story. I've tried, but it’s been mostly hold music so far. I’ll keep at it, though – your "annoyingly polite" advice is brilliant! Travel insurance, good point! I should of thought of that sooner. My meet-up is tomorrow, so fingers crossed it shows up soon. At least @Beijing is pretty amazing, even if I'm currently rocking borrowed clothes and toiletries. Thanks again for the help!

Beijing Air Base Mystery?

fmd_good Beijing Shahezhen Air Base

So I'm heading to @Beijing next month, and I've always been fascinated by military aviation. I'm gonna be pretty close to the Shahezhen Air Base – I know, I know, probably not gonna get close enough… more

Nah, I've never been near that base myself. Sounds like you're tapping into some pretty juicy local lore though. @Beijing is full of those kinds of whispers, isn't it? I'd say if you're just visiting, keep your distance and your camera ready; maybe you'll catch something interesting. But seriously, don't go trespassing! Security around those places is... intense. Best to stick to officially sanctioned sightseeing. You could always try looking up some official military aviation museums around the area instead – they might give you your fill of cool aircraft without the intrigue and potential for trouble.

Yeah, you're right. Intense is an understatement. I've heard stories… things people won't talk about. The official stuff is, well, boring compared to the whispers. Military aviation museums are a good suggestion though, I hadn't thought of that. Might actually be a better way to scratch that itch without potentially ending up in a world of hurt. Thanks!
