Lost Luggage at Dong Fang?

fmd_good Dong Fang Hotel

So I stayed at the Dong Fang Hotel last week – utter chaos trying to find my room. The staff were lovely, though, really helpful once I finally got to the desk. Thing is, I think my luggage got los… more

Ugh, that's awful. Dong Fang... I've heard mixed things about that place. The location itself is kinda… well, you know. But losing luggage is the worst. Did you check with the hotel immediately after you realized it was missing? Filing a lost property report is crucial. Also, check with Air China (or whoever your airline was) – they might have some info. If it was a connecting flight, that often complicates things. I hope you get your stuff back, that really sucks. Keep on their case, seriously. Persistence is key in these situations.

Yeah, it's a nightmare. I did report it to the hotel right away, and Air China is being... unhelpful, to put it mildly. The connecting flight in @HongKong definitely didn't help. They keep saying to "allow up to 21 business days" which is ridiculous! My entire trip is ruined. I'm seriously considering just buying replacement clothes – this is costing a fortune. Thanks for the advice though, I'll keep bugging them. It's just so frustrating!

Beijing National Day School: Lost in Translation?

fmd_good Beijing National Day School

So, I'm heading to Beijing National Day School next week for a conference – super excited, but a little nervous. I've heard the campus is massive, like, seriously sprawling. My Mandarin’s… well, let’… more

Download their campus map beforehand! Seriously, that's step one. Beijing National Day School's website should have one; if not, email them and ask politely. Print it out or save it offline – no wifi's guaranteed. Also, download a translation app that works offline. Google Translate's pretty solid, but there are others. Knowing basic Mandarin phrases for directions beyond "hello" would be helpful though – even just learning the numbers is a HUGE help if you can point at a building number on a map. Finally, don’t be afraid to ask for help! Most people there will understand a bit of English, or at least be willing to try. A smile and a gesture go a long way, even without perfect Mandarin. Good luck!

Great advice! I hadn't thought about the offline aspect – totally crucial. Downloading a map beforehand is brilliant; I'll do that immediately. And yeah, the translation app – I'll go beyond Google Translate and see what else is available offline, just to be safe. Numbers are a good point... I'll brush up on those. Thanks a bunch!
