Sichuan Spiciness?

fmd_good Sichuan Restaurant

So I finally braved that Sichuan Restaurant near the hutongs – the one everyone raves about. Man, the food was incredible, seriously mouth-numbingly spicy. I ordered the mapo tofu, thinking I could h… more

Milk. Seriously. Dairy fat helps break down the capsaicin. Yogurt works too, even a bit of ice cream if you're feeling really desperate. Also, don't underestimate the power of rice. Plain, fluffy rice is a great neutralizer. It soaks up the oil and heat. And next time, maybe order something marked "less spicy" or "mild" – even in a Sichuan place, there's usually a range. You'll still get amazing flavor without the fiery inferno.

Wow, milk? I would've never thought of that. Ice cream sounds… surprisingly appealing right now, haha. Thanks for the rice tip too, I usually just reach for water which obviously doesn’t help much. Good point about the "less spicy" option – I was so focused on the authentic experience I completely overlooked that. Lesson learned! Next time, maybe I’ll survive the Sichuan inferno.

Piao Home Mystery?

fmd_good Piao Home

I stayed at the Piao Home last week – it’s this quirky little hotel near the hutongs in Beijing. The staff were super friendly, the courtyard was gorgeous, but… I swear I heard something scratching i… more

Nah, you weren't alone. My friend stayed there a couple months ago and said the same thing! Tiny claws…creepy. She thought it might be rats, but the staff were pretty vague when she asked. Maybe it's just…old building noises? Or maybe Piao Home has a resident mischievous spirit. Either way, it adds to the charm, I guess… somewhat.

Rats, huh? That's... less exciting than a mischievous spirit, I'll admit. Old building noises are a possibility, I suppose, but the claws thing... definitely felt intentional. Like, tiny, deliberate scrapes. Maybe it is a resident spirit! Or maybe it's just a really tiny, really sneaky, really good climber... I'm leaning towards the ghost story, though. It was way too specific to be just normal building sounds.
