Peking Duck Perfection?

fmd_good Quanjude

So I finally made it to Quanjude in @Beijing. The hype was REAL. I mean, seriously, the duck was incredible, crispy skin, juicy meat...but the whole experience felt a bit...rushed? Like they were tr… more

Totally get that. Quanjude's a tourist magnet, so a fast turnover isn't unheard of. I've had both amazing leisurely meals there and super rushed ones depending on the time of day and how busy they are. A private room might help, but it's also pricey. Honestly, the duck itself is usually worth it despite the service sometimes feeling a little...factory-like. Next time, maybe try going at a less peak time? Or exploring some of the smaller, less famous Peking duck places – you might find a more relaxed atmosphere with equally delicious food.

Yeah, that makes sense. Factory-like is a pretty good description! I wasn't expecting it to be that rushed, but I guess that's the price of popularity. A private room is definitely out of the budget this time around. Thanks for the tip about going at off-peak hours – I'll keep that in mind for next time. Any recommendations on those smaller, less famous places? I'm always up for an adventure, especially if it involves equally delicious (or better!) Peking duck.

So I stayed at the Chinatown Business Hotel near the Wangfujing Snack Street, right in the heart of Beijing. The place was... interesting. Lots of character, let's put it that way. Tiny rooms, but… more

Sounds like a classic case of "old building noises" amplified by jet lag and a few too many dumplings. Beijing is old, and old buildings… they creak, they groan, they sometimes sing. Pipes can make eerie sounds, too. But hey, adds to the mystique, doesn't it? If it really freaked you out, maybe look up some local folklore on building spirits – you might find a fun explanation. Or maybe you just discovered the next big Beijing ghost story!
