That's cool! Finding those tucked-away spots in @Beijing is half the fun. Those older buildings in the alley probably pre-date a lot of the more recent development in that area of Chinatown. You'd probably have better luck finding info on their history at the Beijing Municipal Archives or maybe even the local historical society – they often have records on older buildings and neighborhoods. It's definitely imposing. Pictures don't quite capture the sheer scale of the thing. It's less hushed reverence and more… controlled quiet. Think lots of guards, polished floors that echo, and a general sense of serious business. You'll see groups touring, but it's not chaotic. More like a very, very serious library. Prepare to be awestruck by the size, though. You'll feel tiny.
