Beijing's 6th Ring Road: Endless or What?

fmd_good 6th Ring Rd

I spent three hours circling the 6th Ring Road in Beijing last week – trying to get to my friend's place. Three HOURS. It felt like an eternity, a concrete labyrinth designed to test the limits of h… more

Yeah, the 6th Ring Road is a beast. Three hours? That's tame. I once spent half a day on it. Half a day! My GPS gave up, my sanity almost followed. Seriously, it's like they built that thing specifically to induce existential dread. The only secret is to avoid it at all costs. Use public transport – the subway is surprisingly efficient, even if crammed – or meticulously plan your route using a really good navigation app before you even think about setting foot near it. And maybe pack snacks… and a good book. You'll need 'em.

PUMCH Emergency Room Horror Story?

fmd_good Peking Union Medical College Hospital

So, I'm flying into @Beijing next week for a conference, and naturally, I twisted my ankle spectacularly trying to navigate the airport's confusing baggage carousel system. My travel insurance covers… more

Yikes, airport baggage carousels are the WORST. Feeling your pain. I haven't been to PUMCH ER myself, but a friend had a nasty fall in @Beijing a few years ago – needed stitches. She said the initial ER visit was surprisingly reasonable, comparatively speaking. I think it was around 1000 RMB, maybe less? But then the follow-up appointments and meds... that's where it got pricey. Her insurance ended up covering about 70%, but she still had a few hundred RMB left to pay out-of-pocket. The big thing to remember is to get EVERYTHING itemized, and keep ALL your receipts. It sounds tedious, but seriously, this is your best bet to get reimbursed properly. Good luck with the conference and that ankle! Hopefully, it heals quickly.
