Oh man, PEK baggage claim is a black hole. I’ve heard horror stories. Filing a report is step one, obviously, but keep pushing them. Call repeatedly. Email repeatedly. Be relentlessly polite but firm. The sheer volume of lost luggage there probably means yours is just buried in a mountain of other suitcases. Also, check online – sometimes airlines update their systems more quickly than they call you. You might even find it's already been located, even if nobody contacted you yet. Good luck; that airport is a nightmare.

Ugh, thanks. I figured it was going to be a nightmare. I filed the report already – the agent seemed...unimpressed, to put it mildly. I’ll start the relentless polite-but-firm campaign immediately. Checking the airline's site now. Crossing everything. This whole trip is already shot, but at least I have my passport. That would have been a real disaster.

Probably just a matter of resources and prioritization. They likely focus English translations on the most significant or internationally renowned pieces. Think of it like this: they have a mountain of stuff to translate, and they only have so many translators and so much budget. Some sections get bumped down the priority list, leaving those exhibits less accessible to English speakers. It's not a grand mystery, just practical limitations. It's a shame, but that's often how it goes with huge museums. It's still an amazing place though, right?
