PUMCH Emergency Room Horror Stories?

fmd_good Peking Union Medical College Hospital

So, I'm heading to Peking Union Medical College Hospital, or PUMCH as everyone calls it, next month for a procedure. Heard the doctors there are amazing, top-notch even. But...the stories about the… more

It's definitely not a walk in the park. The sheer volume of patients can be intense – think packed beyond belief, even at off-peak hours. The staff are incredibly skilled, that's true, but they're also stretched thin. Expect long waits, possibly very long waits. Don't go in expecting a relaxing experience; manage your expectations, bring something to occupy yourself, and be prepared for some serious sensory overload. The stories aren't entirely fabrications; there's a reason they're so prevalent. It’s efficient chaos, if that makes any sense. Just...be prepared.

Beijing Capital International Airport Nightmare?

fmd_good Capital Airport

So, I'm flying out of PEK tomorrow, and I've heard horror stories about the airport's security lines. My flight's at 7 AM, should I seriously be there at 4 AM to make sure I don't miss my flight? I'm… more

Four AM is overkill, unless you're flying on a particularly busy day like a major holiday. Three hours before an international flight out of PEK is usually sufficient, especially if you've already checked in online. But, Beijing traffic is a monster, so factor that in. Consider the subway – it’s surprisingly efficient getting to PEK, way less stressful than a taxi. Leave yourself a two-hour buffer for travel and security, and you should be fine. Just download the PEK app beforehand – it’s helpful for checking wait times and navigating the airport.

Yeah, good point about the subway. I hadn't thought of that. Always assumed taxis were the only way to go, considering the horror stories I'd heard about Beijing traffic. Checking in online definitely helps too; I completely spaced on that. Thanks for the PEK app tip; I'll download it now. Four AM felt safer than risking it, you know? Better to be early than miss my flight, especially an international one. Lesson learned though.
