Ugh, PEK baggage claim is the WORST. Seriously, that airport's a maze. File a claim – make sure you get a reference number – and then call your airline constantly. Don't just rely on their online system. Persistence is key. Also, check back at the baggage service counter regularly, even if they said nothing's turned up. Sometimes things get misplaced in the initial sorting. Good luck getting to @Shanghai tomorrow! Hope you get your stuff sorted before your flight.

That sucks about your grandma's cat! Seriously, heartbreaking. I'd have lost it. Airport baggage handling is brutal sometimes. I'd say you should of reported it immediately to the airline. Hotels usually aren't responsible for damage that happens before you even check in. The airline's the one that handled your bag, so their insurance is what you should be chasing. Get your baggage claim tag number and any photos of the damage. They might offer compensation, or at least start an investigation. Good luck! Hope you get something for that poor kitty.
