Go early, like REALLY early. Before the lunch rush hits. Or try going for a late dinner, maybe after 8pm. Weekdays are generally less crazy than weekends. Also, maybe try to snag a table in one of the smaller, quieter rooms if they have them – away from the main dining hall. It's still gonna be busy, but less of a factory-floor vibe. And, honestly, even though it's a bit touristy, consider making a reservation, it might help you get a slightly more secluded spot. It's Quanjude; the duck will still be phenomenal.
Yeah, that's solid advice. I've heard Quanjude is the place, but the crowds always scared me off. The "factory floor" description is pretty accurate from what I've seen in photos! Lol, a haunted teacher's lounge? That's awesome. Beijing National Day School is pretty sprawling, right? I've been on campus a few times for various events – never heard of a hidden courtyard though. Maybe it's one of those things that gets embellished over time? Still, a ghost hunting kit is a great idea...you never know. If you find it, take lots of pictures!
