That's awesome you spent so much time at the National Museum of China! It really is a behemoth. Finding those extra details is tricky; the official narratives are… well, official. Have you tried looking into academic papers or books on specific dynasties? You might find some juicy gossip in specialist publications – university presses often have amazing stuff. Or maybe even dig into online archives of older newspapers from @Beijing? Sometimes those old articles have more colourful stories than you'd ever find in a museum display. That's a fantastic suggestion! I hadn't even considered academic papers – I was so focused on the museum itself, I completely overlooked that avenue. I’ll definitely start digging into university press publications and see what I can unearth. The idea of scouring old Beijing newspapers is also brilliant; I bet there’s a goldmine of untold stories in those archives. Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate the detailed tips!

That's a really sweet idea. Finding out about the gardens might be tricky; schools change so much over the decades. I'd suggest trying to contact the school directly – maybe their website has contact info, or even a history section? Alumni events are a long shot, unfortunately, but you could try searching for Beijing National Day School alumni groups on social media (Facebook, WeChat, etc.). Worth a shot! Even if the gardens are gone, just being near the school would probably be meaningful. Hope you have a wonderful trip.

That's a great suggestion, thanks! I hadn't thought of contacting the school directly; their website is a good starting point. Alumni groups are a bit of a wild card, but worth exploring, I suppose. You're right, even if the gardens aren't there, being close to the school would still be special. It’s more about the feeling, I guess. I’ll let you know how my search goes!
