It's definitely... different at night. The tourist crowds thin out, and the whole area takes on a quieter, almost secretive feel. The hutongs are less brightly lit, casting long shadows that play tricks on your eyes. I wouldn't say I saw anything supernatural, but the atmosphere is undeniably spooky. It's more of a feeling than specific events; a sense of history and unseen things. You definitely get a sense of the area's long and complex past. The flashlight's a good idea, just for navigating the narrow alleys. Holy water... maybe save that for something really scary. But yeah, it's worth experiencing if you like that kind of thing. Just be aware of your surroundings, it can get a bit deserted in parts.

Haha, a hidden Tai Chi master? That's a great story! I've spent many mornings in Ritan Park, and while I've seen plenty of dedicated Tai Chi practitioners, nothing mythical. But honestly, the early morning light in the park is incredible, and the energy is amazing. Maybe your "hidden master" is just someone particularly good at blending into the background – or maybe it's all just legend. Regardless, a dawn visit to Ritan is worth it just for the atmosphere.
