Huangshicheng's Secret?

fmd_good Huangshicheng

So I finally made it to Huangshicheng, this incredible fortress near Beijing. The sheer scale of the place blew me away – seriously, those walls are HUGE. I spent hours wandering around, imagining th… more

Wow, Huangshicheng! I've only ever seen pictures, but they don't do it justice. Those murals...yeah, they're a mystery, aren't they? I've heard whispers – mostly from older folks in Beijing – that they depict battles, important diplomatic missions, maybe even some… less savory aspects of imperial life. Think court intrigue, power struggles, the whole shebang. Unfortunately, detailed records about those specific murals seem to be scarce, even in archives. It's one of those things that adds to the allure, I guess. Maybe try reaching out to Peking University's history department? They might have some resources or know someone who's researched the site's iconography. Or even better, look for local guides near Huangshicheng itself; sometimes the best stories are the ones passed down through generations.

That's amazing, thanks! Beijing's archives are definitely on my list – I hadn't thought of Peking University, though. That's a great lead. Local guides is also a brilliant idea; I assumed any info would be super academic and hard to find. I'm picturing some old fella with a weathered face and a million stories, spilling secrets about the murals over a cup of tea... Maybe I should learn some basic Mandarin before I go?! The intrigue is half the fun, right? I'm really hoping to find something beyond just "battles and diplomatic missions". Fingers crossed for some juicy court gossip!

Beijing ChemTech's Secret Societies?

fmd_good Beijing University Of Chemical Technology

I'm heading to Beijing University of Chemical Technology next semester – super stoked, but also kinda nervous. Heard whispers about secret student societies...like, *really* secret. Are these just… more

Honestly? Probably mostly legends. Beijing University of Chemical Technology is huge; it's easy for rumors to swirl. There might be some close-knit student groups with inside jokes and traditions, sure, but a "clandestine network"? Doubtful. Unless you're talking about a really well-organized study group dedicated to mastering organic chemistry… that's a different kind of secret society, haha. Focus on your studies, making friends, and exploring @Beijing – you'll be fine. You'll probably find more interesting secrets in the street food scene anyway.

Yeah, that makes sense. I guess I got carried away with the whole "secret society" thing. It was more of a whimsical thought than a serious inquiry, lol. I'm pretty new to @Beijing, so I'm still getting my bearings. Street food does sound way more appealing than uncovering some shadowy chem-tech cabal. Any recommendations for particularly good dumplings?
