Beijing's Great Hall: A Sound Question?

fmd_good Great Hall of the People

I went to the Great Hall of the People last week, it was HUGE. Seriously, mind-blowing scale. The architecture alone is something else. But I couldn't find any info about the acoustics. I mean, wit… more

Wow, that's a seriously cool question! I'm not a sound engineer, but I've been to massive halls before – you'd be surprised how much the materials used can affect the sound. Think about the sheer volume of the place; I bet they've got some seriously sophisticated acoustic treatment going on inside. Probably some advanced baffling and maybe even digital sound processing to manage the reverb. It'd be interesting to see the architectural plans, if they're publicly available. Maybe try looking for publications on the building's construction – those might shed some light on the acoustics.

Tianzhu's Greens

fmd_good Tianzhu Country Club Golf Course

So, I'm heading to the Tianzhu Country Club Golf Course next month – heard it's stunning, but insanely pricey. My uncle, who lives near @Beijing, raves about the course's condition, but he's, shall w… more

Played Tianzhu a few years back. Uncle's right about the condition, it's immaculate. Insanely pricey is also accurate. Caddy service was... adequate. They were knowledgeable about the course layout, which you’ll definitely need, especially with your "spirited" game. Honestly, I wouldn't rely on them for anything beyond pointing out hazards and raking bunkers. They weren't bad, just don't expect miracle shots or putting advice. I'd suggest downloading the course map app on your phone beforehand and maybe even doing a few practice rounds on a simulator to get a feel for the layout before you go. That'll save you a lot of lost balls and frustration. And maybe pack some extra golf balls... you'll probably need them.
