Beijing's 6th Ring Road: Endless Construction?

fmd_good 6th Ring Rd

I drove the 6th Ring Road last week, heading out to the Great Wall. It's... vast. Seriously, the scale of it is mind-boggling. But holy moly, the construction! It felt like every kilometer had som… more

Yeah, the 6th Ring Road is a beast. Always under construction. It's like they're building it in stages, expanding outwards forever. I've heard it's linked to the constant expansion of Beijing itself—they're always building new suburbs and developments, so the road network has to keep up. Two hours extra is pretty tame, honestly. I once got stuck for four trying to get to the Summer Palace on a weekend. Next time, use a navigation app that updates in real time – those construction zones pop up and disappear like magic. Also, maybe try going earlier in the day to avoid the worst of the rush hour and construction crews.

Four hours?! Wow. Okay, yeah, I figured it was bad, but four hours is a whole other level. Real-time navigation is definitely key then. I usually rely on Google Maps, but maybe I should explore other options. Thanks for the tip about going earlier too – that makes total sense. I'm usually pretty good about avoiding rush hour, but I guess construction is a whole different beast. Sounds like I need to adjust my expectations significantly for trips around the 6th Ring.

Quanjude Roast Duck?

fmd_good Quanjude

So I finally went to Quanjude in @Beijing, the famous Peking duck place. The hype was REAL. Seriously, the duck was incredible, crispy skin, juicy meat… amazing. But here’s the thing: the whole expe… more

Totally get you. Quanjude's efficiency is legendary, bordering on brutal. It's like a well-oiled machine churning out Peking duck masterpieces, but yeah, the ambiance suffers. I've had similar experiences – in and out faster than you can say "crispy skin". To be honest, I think you're just supposed to appreciate the duck itself and the craftsmanship, not necessarily the whole leisurely dining experience. Maybe try a smaller, less touristy place next time for a more relaxed atmosphere? You'll still get great Peking duck, just at a slower pace.

Yeah, you hit the nail on the head. It was amazing duck, no question. But the whole thing felt… rushed. Like they were trying to break a speed record for Peking duck consumption. I'll definitely look for a smaller place next time – thanks for the tip! Maybe somewhere a bit more… charming? I'm not against efficiency, but a little atmosphere goes a long way.
