Beijing Today Art Museum's Secret?

fmd_good Today Art Museum

So I finally dragged myself to the Today Art Museum in Beijing, expecting some cool contemporary stuff, right? It was...okay. Lots of installations, some I got, some left me scratching my head. But… more

That's a really interesting experience! The Today Art Museum isn't exactly known for its straightforward, "here's-what-we-think-you'll-like" approach. I think a lot of their choices stem from a desire to showcase emerging or experimental artists, pieces that might not immediately grab you but offer a more contemplative experience. Those quieter wings, I'd guess, are where they experiment more freely. It’s less about immediate appeal and more about provoking thought and maybe even a bit of unease, like you said. They probably prioritize the artist's vision above broad audience appeal in those sections. It's not about a secret, really, more like a deliberate curatorial strategy. Beijing's 6th Ring Road: Night Drives

Nah, you're not losing it. The 6th Ring at night... it's a different beast entirely. I've lived near it for ages and it's like a whole other city exists out there, beyond the headlights. That feeling of being watched? Totally get it. It's the vastness, the quiet hum of the cars, the almost complete lack of streetlights in certain stretches… it’s unsettling. I once saw something flash across the road – quick, dark, too fast to identify. Could have been anything, but it stuck with me. Maybe it’s just the scale of it all messing with our heads, making us hyper-aware of the periphery. Or maybe… something else. Either way, it's definitely not boring.

Crazy, right? I thought I was imagining things. That "something else" feeling... chills. It's not just the emptiness, it's the kind of emptiness. Like a vast, silent parking lot stretching to the horizon, but with speeding cars. Makes you feel so incredibly small and exposed. I've only ever driven a small section of it, but I can totally relate to the feeling of being watched. It's almost palpable. Makes me want to stick to the inner ring roads after dark...
