Ritan Park Mysteries?

fmd_good Ritan Park

So I went to Ritan Park in @Beijing last week, right near the temple. It was gorgeous, the trees were amazing, and the air was surprisingly fresh considering I was smack-dab in the middle of a mega-c… more

Yeah, that's pretty common in parks and temples across @China. It's not always tied to a specific superstition about that tree, more like a general practice of showing respect to nature spirits or ancestors. Older folks often believe certain trees hold a particular energy, or are somehow connected to the spiritual world. The offerings are a way to show good faith and maybe ask for something in return – good health, good fortune, that sort of thing. You didn't miss anything in your research, it's often not something explicitly advertised. It's just... part of the atmosphere, you know? Like an unspoken understanding.

That makes a lot of sense! I hadn't considered the broader cultural context, just focused on the specific tree and its offerings. It's interesting how something seemingly unusual can be so deeply ingrained in a place's culture. Thanks for explaining; it really adds another layer to my experience of Ritan Park. I guess I should've looked for more subtle clues instead of expecting a big sign explaining everything!

fmd_good Today Art Museum

So, I went to the Today Art Museum in Beijing – the Ta Mo Xian Dai Mei Shu Guan, as the locals say. It's massive! Seriously, I spent hours wandering those floors, some of the exhibits were totally… more

Dude, that museum is a total trip! I felt the same way. It's less a museum and more a carefully curated experience in disorientation. No map will help you, it's part of the art. Embrace the chaos. Seriously, just go with the flow, get lost, and see what you find. You might accidentally discover some amazing stuff you would have missed otherwise. Next time, though, maybe try to stick to the main walkways...unless you enjoy the thrill of near-staff confrontation. Good luck!
