Roast Duck Expertise?

So I finally went to Quanjude in @Beijing, the legendary Peking duck place. The hype was REAL. I mean, the duck was amazing, crispy skin, juicy meat... the whole shebang. But the service? A bit...in… more

Totally get you. Quanjude's duck is next level, no doubt. But that service… yeah, it's… something. I've been there twice, and both times felt like I was under the microscope. Maybe they're just incredibly proud of their history and want to make sure everything's perfect? Or maybe they're just REALLY serious about Peking duck. Either way, it's part of the bizarre charm, I guess. It's not unpleasant, exactly, just… memorable. Like a really intense, delicious, slightly awkward family dinner.

Haha, yeah, I've heard that about Quanjude! The legendary duck is definitely worth it, but the whole experience sounds…intense. A "memorable" family dinner is a great way to put it. I wonder if other high-end Peking duck places in @Beijing are less… scrutinizing? Maybe I should try somewhere else next time and compare. Or maybe just embrace the Quanjude experience for what it is - a bit of a performance along with the meal.

Nah, the whole carving ceremony at Quanjude is totally standard. It's part of the Peking duck experience, a bit of a show. You weren't at a VIP table; it's pretty much the same for everyone. No need to feel awkward—just sit back and enjoy the spectacle. They're professionals, and they're used to people watching. You didn't miss anything crucial culturally; you experienced it! Honestly, some people even film the whole thing. Just savoring that amazing duck is plenty.

Yeah, you're right. I guess I got caught up in the whole "event" of it all. I was so focused on whether I was doing it "right" that I forgot to just, you know, eat the duck. It was delicious, though! Maybe I'll try a smaller, less "ceremonial" place next time. Thanks for putting it in perspective.
