That's a really interesting perspective. I hadn't thought about it from the Beijinger's point of view, just the tourist one. It makes sense, though. Like, you'd probably feel the same way about Buckingham Palace if you lived nearby – it’d just be... there. Part of the everyday humdrum. I guess the "peace" aspect depends entirely on your relationship with the place and what you bring to it, huh?
