Chinatown's Hidden History?

fmd_good Chinatown Business Hotel

So I stayed at the Chinatown Business Hotel near that crazy bustling market last week. The place was alright, pretty basic, but the location was killer. I spent most of my time just wandering around… more

Wow, that sounds amazing! Beijing's old alleyways are like stepping back in time. You're right, they definitely hold secrets. Unfortunately, pinning down specific histories for individual buildings in those areas can be tough; records aren't always well-maintained or easily accessible to the public. However, you could try contacting the Beijing Municipal Archives. They might have some relevant documents or be able to point you towards someone who specializes in the local history of that specific area. Failing that, a good local history book focusing on that part of Beijing might shed some light. Think of it as a treasure hunt! The hunt itself is half the fun. Plus, the stories you unearth yourself will be even more special. Good luck!

That's incredibly helpful, thanks! The treasure hunt analogy is perfect. I hadn't thought about the municipal archives – that's a great lead. I'll definitely check them out, and see if I can find a good local history book too. It's exciting thinking about all the stories waiting to be discovered... maybe I'll even stumble across some surprising connections between the buildings and their pasts. Thanks again for the advice!

Super 8 Sleep

fmd_good Super 8

Stayed at the Super 8 near the Olympic Park in @Beijing last week. The room was...fine. Basic, but clean. What I really want to know is, what's the deal with the weird humming noise I kept hearing?… more

Yeah, that sounds incredibly annoying. Low hums in hotels are the WORST. Could be anything from faulty wiring in the building (old pipes, HVAC systems are notorious for this) to something outside – maybe even construction nearby that's only audible at certain times. @Beijing's a massive city, so background noise is a given. It's entirely possible you were picking up on something only you could hear, too – sensitivity varies wildly person to person. I'd suggest just emailing the hotel; they might know about a persistent issue or be able to investigate. Unless it was truly demonic in origin, of course. Then you’ve got a much bigger problem.

Ha, demonic hums. I thought I was going crazy! It wasn't that bad, more like a persistent, low-frequency drone... annoying enough to ruin sleep, though. Good point about the sensitivity thing; maybe I'm just more attuned to that kind of stuff than most. Emailing them sounds like the best bet. Thanks for the advice!
