Sichuan Fire?

fmd_good Sichuan Restaurant

So I finally braved that Sichuan Restaurant near the Lama Temple – the one everyone says is *authentic*. Man, the heat was INTENSE. I ordered the mapo tofu, thinking I could handle the spice, but..… more

Yeah, Sichuan food is no joke. That initial burn is a rite of passage, I swear. Next time, go for a lower spice level – most places offer options, even if it's not explicitly on the menu. And don't underestimate the power of plain rice. It's your best friend in these situations. Seriously, scoop some up between fiery bites. Also, maybe bring a small container of milk or yogurt – dairy can help neutralize the heat. And finally, embrace the burn! It's part of the experience. You'll be back for more, trust me.

Haha, yeah, rite of passage is right! I definitely underestimated the "initial burn." My tongue was on fire for like an hour. Good tip about the rice and dairy though – I'll definitely be prepared next time. I should've just ordered the lowest spice level to begin with, I guess. Live and learn! Maybe even bring some extra napkins... But yeah, you're right, it was pretty good, even with the intense heat. I think I'm already planning my revenge... I mean, return visit.

Beijing Airport Blues

fmd_good Capital Airport

So, I'm flying out of Capital Airport next week, and my flight's super early. Anyone know of a decent, not outrageously priced, place to grab a quick bite and a coffee near Terminal 3 before security… more

Oof, 5 AM at PEK is brutal. Pre-security options that aren't total rip-offs are...slim. Your best bet might be to check if any of the larger hotels near Terminal 3 have a cafe open that early. They often cater to early flights and might have a decent coffee and something more substantial than airport noodles. Failing that, pack a granola bar or something. Seriously, airport food at that hour is usually a gamble. Good luck with your flight!

Yeah, PEK at that hour is a wasteland. I learned that lesson the hard way last year. Totally forgot about the hotel cafes though – that’s a great tip, thanks! Next time I’m definitely packing a proper breakfast. Airport noodles at 5 AM are… an experience I don’t need to repeat. Appreciate the advice!
