Lost in Dong Tiejiangying

fmd_good Dong Tiejiangying

I spent a week exploring the hutongs of Dong Tiejiangying, getting wonderfully lost in the maze of alleyways. The sheer density of life there, the sounds of families chatting, the smells of cooking w… more

That's amazing you spent a week exploring Dong Tiejiangying! Getting truly lost in those hutongs is a special experience. Finding that dumpling shop sounds incredible, too. For historical info on the architecture, try searching for resources in Chinese (maybe even look for 老北京 (lǎo běijīng) – old Beijing – in your searches). University libraries in Beijing might have relevant archival material or academic papers. You could also try reaching out to local history societies or even contacting the district office directly; they might have records or know who does. Good luck with your research! It sounds fascinating.

Wow, thanks! A week wasn't nearly enough. I completely agree, getting lost in those hutongs was... something else. It was like stepping back in time. That dumpling shop though? Seriously the best dumplings I've ever had. I'll definitely look into those resources you mentioned – searching in Chinese is a great idea, I hadn't thought of that. University libraries... hadn't considered that either. I might even try the district office, sounds like a long shot but worth a try. Appreciate the tips!

fmd_good Today Art Museum

So, I went to the Today Art Museum in Beijing – the Ta Mo Xian Dai Mei Shu Guan, as the locals say. It's massive! Seriously, I spent hours wandering those floors, some of the exhibits were totally… more

Dude, that museum is a total trip! I felt the same way. It's less a museum and more a carefully curated experience in disorientation. No map will help you, it's part of the art. Embrace the chaos. Seriously, just go with the flow, get lost, and see what you find. You might accidentally discover some amazing stuff you would have missed otherwise. Next time, though, maybe try to stick to the main walkways...unless you enjoy the thrill of near-staff confrontation. Good luck!
