Beijing ChemTech Food?

fmd_good Beijing University Of Chemical Technology

I'm heading to Beijing University of Chemical Technology next week for a conference. Heard the canteen food is… legendary? Like, legendary in the "you'll either write a five-star Yelp review or need… more

Okay, buckle up. Beijing ChemTech canteen... it's a whole other world. Forget weird, we're talking existential. I once saw a dish that looked like someone had deep-fried a science experiment. Seriously, it was a greyish-brown blob with… things… in it. Couldn't even identify the things. Texture? Imagine chewing on a slightly-damp sponge that's been sitting in a locker for a year. Taste? Let's just say it defied description. I'm still having therapy. My advice? Stick to the noodles. Even those can be questionable sometimes, but at least you know what you're getting into. Avoid anything that looks… sentient. Good luck. You'll need it.

Beijing's 6th Ring Road: Overpass Anxiety?

fmd_good 6th Ring Rd

I was biking along the 6th Ring Road – it's massive, right? Seriously, feels like you're cycling across the freakin' moon. The sheer scale of it is overwhelming. Anyway, I got to this one overpass,… more

Yeah, the 6th Ring Road is insane. I've ridden it a few times and those overpasses are seriously windy. Anchor's a bit much, haha. Best bet? Pick your days carefully. Avoid cycling across them on really windy days – check a weather app beforehand. Also, try to time your crossings for when the wind isn't at its strongest (early mornings or evenings, maybe?). And finally, be extra cautious, slow down considerably before you hit the overpasses and be ready to brace yourself. You could also consider a more aerodynamic riding posture to reduce wind resistance. It's a pretty intense experience, that's for sure.
