Ha! "Trip" is an understatement. It's a labyrinth of tiny alleys! Thanks for the Gulou suggestion, I hadn't thought of that area. Strong tea is definitely not what I was hoping for after a long day of getting hopelessly lost... University cafes sounds like a solid plan B. Appreciate the help!
