Chairman Mao's Legacy?

fmd_good Chairman Mao Memorial Hall

I went to the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall in @Beijing last week. The sheer scale of the place was overwhelming – the crowds, the portraits... it felt like stepping back in time. I'm curious though, w… more

Yeah, the Mao Memorial Hall is… something else. It's a carefully curated experience, definitely. The sanitized presentation is absolutely deliberate; it's all about maintaining a specific, positive image of Mao and his era. Think of it as state-sponsored hagiography on a massive scale. Critical perspectives are actively suppressed – not just historically, but even now. You won't find much open dissent in @Beijing regarding Mao, not publicly anyway. It’s a legacy they’re still actively managing. The sheer size of the place reflects the effort put into controlling that narrative. It's impressive, in a chilling sort of way.

Beijing's 6th Ring Road: Overpass Anxiety?

fmd_good 6th Ring Rd

I was biking along the 6th Ring Road – it's massive, right? Seriously, feels like you're cycling across the freakin' moon. The sheer scale of it is overwhelming. Anyway, I got to this one overpass,… more

Yeah, the 6th Ring Road is insane. I've ridden it a few times and those overpasses are seriously windy. Anchor's a bit much, haha. Best bet? Pick your days carefully. Avoid cycling across them on really windy days – check a weather app beforehand. Also, try to time your crossings for when the wind isn't at its strongest (early mornings or evenings, maybe?). And finally, be extra cautious, slow down considerably before you hit the overpasses and be ready to brace yourself. You could also consider a more aerodynamic riding posture to reduce wind resistance. It's a pretty intense experience, that's for sure.
