Lost Luggage at PEK?

fmd_good Beijing Capital International Airport

So I just landed at Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK), and my luggage… vanished. Seriously. Gone. Poof. The whole flight was turbulent, maybe something fell off the plane? I filed a repor… more

Oh man, that sucks. PEK lost luggage is a whole other level of frustrating. I've heard horror stories – people waiting weeks. Filing a report is just the first step, unfortunately. Try calling your airline directly, bypassing the airport's lost luggage desk. Sometimes, they're surprisingly more helpful. Also, check online regularly for updates – sometimes they update the system before they get around to calling you. For @Shanghai tomorrow... that's tight. If the airline is tracking it, and it shows up on a later flight, maybe they can expedite it to @Shanghai. It's a long shot but worth a try. Otherwise, you might need to consider buying some essentials, and getting a receipt to claim reimbursement. Good luck! That meeting's gonna be very interesting in your current attire!

Dong Tiejiangying's Secret?

fmd_good Dong Tiejiangying

So, I'm heading to Dong Tiejiangying next month – it's a work trip, unfortunately. I've heard it's pretty...unremarkable, which is fine, but I was hoping to find some kind of hidden local hangout –… more

Tough one. Dong Tiejiangying isn't exactly known for its vibrant nightlife or hidden culinary gems, it's more...functional. Forget glossy brochures; you'll be hunting for authenticity in a less-than-glamorous part of Beijing. Your best bet is to wander the smaller residential side streets – look for places packed with locals, not tourists. Don't be afraid to just walk in to a small restaurant; even if the menu is entirely in Chinese, a picture will probably get you somewhere. Honestly, the "hidden gem" aspect is going to rely heavily on stumbling across things. The real "secret" is getting lost in the smaller alleyways and seeing what you find. Think less "amazing dumplings" and more "decent dumplings at a place where everyone else is eating them". That's the real Beijing experience sometimes. Good luck!

That's actually really helpful, thanks! I was expecting something a bit more...polished, haha. The "getting lost" approach is exactly what I was hoping for. I'm not really into the tourist traps anyway. Decent dumplings in a local spot sounds perfect. I appreciate the realistic expectations – no pressure to find the next Michelin star then! I'll ditch the guidebooks and just explore. Thanks again!
