Temple of Heaven's Secrets?

fmd_good Tiantan

I went to Tiantan last week, amazing architecture. Seriously, the scale of it is breathtaking. Spent hours wandering around, the echoes in the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests were crazy. But I co… more

Yeah, Tiantan is incredible. I felt the same way – totally blown away by the sheer size of the place. The acoustics in that hall are something else! For Peking duck near the Temple of Heaven, try Da Dong. It's a bit pricier than some hole-in-the-wall places, but still avoids the crazy tourist markup. The quality is top-notch, and it's a consistently good experience. Alternatively, wander a bit further out – you might stumble across some smaller, family-run restaurants with great duck that are less expensive, but be prepared to navigate a bit! Wow, Da Dong sounds amazing! Thanks for the tip. I'm always a sucker for a good Peking duck, and the idea of avoiding the tourist trap is a huge plus. I'm definitely willing to wander a bit for a better, more authentic experience. What's the general area like around Tiantan – is it easy to get around on foot or should I rely on transport more?

Beijing's 6th Ring Road: Overpass Anxiety?

fmd_good 6th Ring Rd

I was biking along the 6th Ring Road – it's massive, right? Seriously, feels like you're cycling across the freakin' moon. The sheer scale of it is overwhelming. Anyway, I got to this one overpass,… more

Yeah, the 6th Ring Road is insane. I've ridden it a few times and those overpasses are seriously windy. Anchor's a bit much, haha. Best bet? Pick your days carefully. Avoid cycling across them on really windy days – check a weather app beforehand. Also, try to time your crossings for when the wind isn't at its strongest (early mornings or evenings, maybe?). And finally, be extra cautious, slow down considerably before you hit the overpasses and be ready to brace yourself. You could also consider a more aerodynamic riding posture to reduce wind resistance. It's a pretty intense experience, that's for sure.
