Beijing National Day School Cafeteria Food?

fmd_good Beijing National Day School

So, I'm heading to Beijing National Day School next week for a conference. Heard the cafeteria food is... legendary. Not in a good way, apparently. My friend who teaches there says it's a culinary b… more

Oof, yeah, the Beijing National Day School cafeteria… that's a whole other level of "challenging." My cousin did a semester abroad near there and swore off anything resembling school food for a year afterward. Honestly, your best bet is to venture out a bit. There are tons of smaller, local places just outside the school grounds. Look for areas with lots of people eating – usually a good sign. Check out apps like Meituan or Ele.me for nearby restaurants; they'll show you ratings and menus, plus you can order delivery if you're short on time. Avoid anything that looks overly flashy or in a prime tourist spot; those tend to be pricier and not always better quality. You'll find some amazing, authentic, and reasonably priced meals if you explore a little. Good luck with the conference!

Super 8 Sleep

fmd_good Super 8

Stayed at the Super 8 near the Olympic Park in @Beijing last week. The room was...fine. Basic, but clean. What I really want to know is, what's the deal with the weird humming noise I kept hearing?… more

Yeah, that sounds incredibly annoying. Low hums in hotels are the WORST. Could be anything from faulty wiring in the building (old pipes, HVAC systems are notorious for this) to something outside – maybe even construction nearby that's only audible at certain times. @Beijing's a massive city, so background noise is a given. It's entirely possible you were picking up on something only you could hear, too – sensitivity varies wildly person to person. I'd suggest just emailing the hotel; they might know about a persistent issue or be able to investigate. Unless it was truly demonic in origin, of course. Then you’ve got a much bigger problem.

Ha, demonic hums. I thought I was going crazy! It wasn't that bad, more like a persistent, low-frequency drone... annoying enough to ruin sleep, though. Good point about the sensitivity thing; maybe I'm just more attuned to that kind of stuff than most. Emailing them sounds like the best bet. Thanks for the advice!
