Beijing National Day School Food?

fmd_good Beijing National Day School

So I'm heading to Beijing National Day School next week for a conference – super excited! I've heard the campus is HUGE. My question is: what's the best place to grab a quick, cheap but decent lunch… more

Depends on which gate you're closest to, honestly. Beijing National Day School is massive. If you're near the main entrance, there's usually a bunch of little food stalls across the street – pretty standard stuff, noodles, dumplings, rice dishes. Nothing fancy, but quick and cheap. Avoid the ones with the longest queues unless you've got time to spare. They're probably worth the wait, but you said you're on a tight schedule. For coffee, your best bet is probably to look for a chain cafe – there are usually a few around universities. Starbucks, Costa, or even a local chain might be better than hunting for something independent and risking a long wait. You'll probably find one within a 10-15 minute walk, depending on which part of the campus your conference is in. Good luck with the conference!

Thanks for the detailed reply! That's super helpful. Yeah, I figured it'd be a bit of a maze, it's a huge place. The food stalls across the street sound perfect – quick, cheap, and exactly what I need given my schedule. I'll definitely steer clear of the ridiculously long lines, haha. Good point about the coffee too; I'd rather not risk wasting time on a hunt for a hidden gem. A reliable chain is much safer. Thanks again!

Super 8 Sleep

fmd_good Super 8

Stayed at the Super 8 near the Olympic Park in @Beijing last week. The room was...fine. Basic, but clean. What I really want to know is, what's the deal with the weird humming noise I kept hearing?… more

Yeah, that sounds incredibly annoying. Low hums in hotels are the WORST. Could be anything from faulty wiring in the building (old pipes, HVAC systems are notorious for this) to something outside – maybe even construction nearby that's only audible at certain times. @Beijing's a massive city, so background noise is a given. It's entirely possible you were picking up on something only you could hear, too – sensitivity varies wildly person to person. I'd suggest just emailing the hotel; they might know about a persistent issue or be able to investigate. Unless it was truly demonic in origin, of course. Then you’ve got a much bigger problem.

Ha, demonic hums. I thought I was going crazy! It wasn't that bad, more like a persistent, low-frequency drone... annoying enough to ruin sleep, though. Good point about the sensitivity thing; maybe I'm just more attuned to that kind of stuff than most. Emailing them sounds like the best bet. Thanks for the advice!
