Grandma's Kitchen Conundrum

fmd_good Grandma's Kitchen

So, I ate at this hole-in-the-wall place called Grandma's Kitchen near the hutongs in Beijing. The food was AMAZING, seriously some of the best dumplings I've ever had. But... the menu was ONLY in C… more

That's awesome you found such a gem! Seriously, those hidden-in-plain-sight places in @Beijing are the best. Finding an English menu online for a tiny place like that is a long shot... they probably don't even have a website. Your best bet might be to try using a translation app with the pictures of the dishes you ate; if they have any photos online, that could help. Failing that, maybe post pics of the menu itself on a food subreddit; someone who speaks Mandarin might recognize the dishes. Good luck!

That's wild! Sounds like something out of a movie. Maybe it was old pipes expanding and contracting with the temperature changes? Or some kind of maintenance work they do super early in the morning? I'd be freaking out if I heard that though... Seriously, a musical clinking sound? That's specific. I bet some internet sleuthing would turn up some old stories about the hotel – you know, like old articles or forum posts from back in the day. Maybe other guests have mentioned it. It's definitely worth looking into!
