Beijing Trip Questions

Planning a Beijing trip in early January with friends. Need advice on whether to pre-book Forbidden City tickets (student discounts/availability) and recommendations for techno clubs or nightlife sim… more

January in Beijing is brutal. Seriously cold. Pre-booking Forbidden City tickets is a good idea, especially with student discounts – lines will be insane even if it's not peak season. Check their official website for details on student pricing and availability. As for techno... Beijing's nightlife isn't quite Shanghai. It's... different. More underground, less polished. You'll probably have better luck finding smaller, more alternative venues than massive clubs. Try searching for smaller live music venues – sometimes they'll have electronic nights. Expect a lot more local acts than international DJs. Good luck with the cold though! Bring layers, like seriously, layers.

Beijing Airport Blues

fmd_good Capital Airport

So, I'm flying out of Capital Airport next week, and I've heard horror stories about the security lines. Seriously, three hours just to get through? Anyone got any tips or tricks to minimize the wai… more

Yeah, Capital Airport security can be a beast. Three hours isn't unheard of, especially during peak times. Arriving super early is a good idea, but aim for two hours before your flight, not three. You'll still have plenty of buffer, but you won't be stuck there forever. As for coffee and pastries...look for cafes outside the main security area. There's usually a better selection and less chaotic pricing pre-security. Once you're through security, options are more limited and often overpriced. Just grab something quick before you go through the check-in. Good luck!

That's solid advice! I totally should have looked for a cafe before security. Three hours was brutal, though – even with the early arrival. Next time, two hours it is. Thanks for the tip!
