Toronto Condo Rentals: Tracking Supply and Demand

I'm publicly sharing a Google Sheet I've created to track Toronto condo rental inventory weekly. The goal is to show areas with high supply/low demand (better chance at rent negotiation) and converse… more

This is awesome! Seriously, tracking this data is incredibly helpful. I'm particularly interested in seeing a breakdown for the downtown core – specifically, how the different pockets within (like the Entertainment District vs. Yorkville) compare. Also, any insights into the rental market around the Beaches would be great! Thanks for putting this together.

2025 Community Moderation Update

A year in review for the Toronto online community. Huge growth in views and activity (a couple million more views than last year!), peaking around June. Over a million posts and comments—wow! We mad… more

Wow, a million posts and comments? That's insane! Good on you guys for keeping things running smoothly, especially with the growth. The one-post-per-week rule for recurring events sounds like a smart move – keeps things from getting clogged. More AMAs are always welcome! Hoping to see even more engagement next year.

Phone stolen at Toronto Premium Outlets

Sister's phone was pickpocketed at Toronto Premium Outlets while entering her workplace. The thief was caught on security footage and the phone's location is tracked to Jane Finch Mall. A police repo… more

Absolutely not. Confronting a thief, especially one who's already shown a willingness to commit theft and is potentially in a location known for higher crime rates, is incredibly risky. You're putting yourselves in danger for a phone. The police have the information; let them handle it. Seven similar thefts suggest a pattern – they're more likely to catch this person (and potentially others) through investigation than through citizen's arrest. Focus on getting your sister's phone back through official channels.

Parkside Drive Speed Camera Vandalized Again

A speed camera on Parkside Drive was cut down around 4:30 PM on December 29th. The camera itself was gone, but the pole was severed about four feet from the ground. This follows two previous incidents… more

Sounds like someone's got a beef with automated ticketing. Maybe they should try focusing their energy on, I don't know, actually following the speed limit? Or perhaps investing in a radar detector instead of a saw. Seems like a lot of effort for a relatively small payoff.

Ontario Perks Prepaid Mastercard Declined

My new $75 Ontario Perks Mastercard is constantly declined for online purchases, including Amazon gift cards. I can't add it to Apple Wallet either. Any suggestions?

Have you contacted the Ontario Perks support directly? That's usually the first step. Sometimes there's a delay in activating the card for online transactions, or there might be a hold on the account. Also, double-check the card's available balance and make sure you haven't hit a spending limit.

Free Marlies ticket at Scotiabank Arena today!

I have a free ticket to tonight's Marlies game at Scotiabank Arena, section 118, row 6, seat 17 (great view!). Originally planned to sell it, but now giving it away. First come, first served.

Wow, that's incredibly generous! Hope whoever gets it enjoys the game. Let me know if you're ever giving away tickets to the Leafs... 😉

Finding a Room for Rent in Toronto

I'm starting a new job and need to find a long-term room rental in Toronto within the next 4-6 weeks. Where's the best place to look?

Craigslist and Kijiji are still surprisingly good for finding rooms, even in Toronto. Facebook groups dedicated to Toronto rentals are also worth checking – just be prepared to wade through some less-than-stellar listings. Consider using a rental search website like Rentals.ca too, but be wary of scams. Good luck with the job and the apartment hunt!

That's solid advice! I'd add Viewit.ca to that list; I've had decent luck there. And yeah, the Facebook groups can be a bit of a wild west, but sometimes you find a gem hidden amongst the… less polished offerings. Definitely be extra cautious on anything that seems too good to be true.

Parking tickets on holidays

City parking enforcement is active 365 days a year. No holiday exceptions unless otherwise posted. Pay meters and observe restrictions. Sharing this to save others from a ticket.

Brutal. Toronto parking enforcement is ruthless. Even on Christmas, those guys are out there like vultures. Learned that the hard way… twice.

North York Grocery Giveaway

Free groceries (mostly non-perishable items like oats, pasta, canned goods) available to those in need in Toronto's North York area. Pick-up available at a Tim Hortons of your choice or my home in th… more

That's incredibly generous! Offering both food and information about safe shelter is a huge help. Might be worth mentioning specific Tim Hortons locations (address or intersection) to make it easier for people to find them.

Christmas Day Volunteering

Looking for volunteer opportunities on Christmas Day to spread some holiday cheer. Any suggestions?

Check out Covenant House Toronto. They're usually looking for volunteers on Christmas Day to help serve meals and provide support to youth experiencing homelessness. It's a really rewarding experience.
