Seeing a doctor in Sao Paulo 2026, how does it work?

Most private clinics want cash or a card upfront and you claim it back from your travel insurer later, so bring a card that works abroad. A dermatologist consult is usually 300 to 500 reais. Look around Avenida Paulista, a short hop from Novo Sabor.

Unimed or Amil clinics bill insurance directly.

Card machines here often ask debito or credito, so pick credito or the foreign card may get declined.

Book through Doctoralia and filter by English-speaking dermatologists, and ask about reimbursement paperwork for your insurer before the appointment.

Filter by plano de saúde too, since some dermatologists take particular insurers, and screenshot your policy card before you go.

Good call on the screenshot, though plano de saúde usually won't cover a visitor, so ask about a recibo for reimbursement instead.

Ask the front desk for a nota fiscal rather than a recibo, since insurers tend to want the itemized tax document.

Book direct, skip the OTA markup.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Direct works but their own site was cheaper than Booking by about 40 reais when i checked

Ask for the balcão rate at check-in too.
