CPF first, no way around it, Nubank won't budge without one. Get it at the Receita Federal or a despachante before you land if you can. Wise or Remitly for transfers beats bank wire fees by a lot.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Agree, but Wise needs your passport verified first, takes a few days

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

honestly the passport check is the easy part, getting the selfie to pass on teh first try is where ppl get stuck.

the despachante route runs around 200 to 400 reais depending on who u use & is way faster than booking at the Receita yourself

Visa debit works at most card machines but carry some reais for the padaria and street vendors, and grab a local SIM for Pix.

If you're up for a 15 min walk, head toward rua 7 de abril and the lanes off praça da república. There's a cluster of padarias there that do a solid pão na chapa plus suco for cheap, and they open early even on weekends. The walk through centro is sketchy quiet before 8 so keep your phone in your pocket.

Honestly I'd grab a misto quente at the little lanchonete right on the praça itself, cheap and quick before the crowds show up.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

which lanchonete? the one with the orange awning?

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

that orange awning spot works but the misto quente is better at the padaria on rua direita, two blocks toward the cathedral

centro on a weekday morning is a different beast than sunday, most of the good brunch stuff around Sé is weekday lunch places honestly. i'd walk 10 min down to the mercado municipal area instead, the padarias along rua comendador abdo schahin do solid misto quente & pão de queijo from like 7am. sunday is dead quiet down there so plan around that
