vintage coffee does a decent flat white but the food is mostly pastries, not a real meal. if it's rammed on a saturday, walk up to rua harmonia in vila madalena, maybe 10 min, and try coffee lab. their espresso's better tbh and there's actual seating. weekdays are way calmer either spot

Worth adding that Coffee Lab gets genuinely packed after 11 on Saturdays too, so go early or aim for Sunday. If you want a proper meal with the coffee, there's a small padaria two blocks down Rua Fradique Coutinho that does decent salgados.

If you're up for a 15 min walk, head toward rua 7 de abril and the lanes off praça da república. There's a cluster of padarias there that do a solid pão na chapa plus suco for cheap, and they open early even on weekends. The walk through centro is sketchy quiet before 8 so keep your phone in your pocket.

Honestly I'd grab a misto quente at the little lanchonete right on the praça itself, cheap and quick before the crowds show up.

centro on a weekday morning is a different beast than sunday, most of the good brunch stuff around Sé is weekday lunch places honestly. i'd walk 10 min down to the mercado municipal area instead, the padarias along rua comendador abdo schahin do solid misto quente & pão de queijo from like 7am. sunday is dead quiet down there so plan around that
